Feasibility Bid for Llangefni Extra Care Housing with Grŵp Cynefin

Ainsley Gommon partnered with Grŵp Cynefin to bid for a new Extra Care older persons scheme on the Isle of Anglesey. Located on the site of a former special school, the feasibility proposals were developed in plan and 3D for the bid submission, with the design providing a total of 38no. two bedroom flats and 18no. one bedroom flats, including 16no. specialist dementia flats.

Due to the exposed nature of Anglesey, the scheme was developed around a central courtyard to allow a sheltered external space for the residents, whilst also allowing natural sunlight into the building. Linear blocks of accommodation down the north and west boundary form ‘bookends’ for a curved residential element which follows the shape of the site, allowing views out over the grazing land beyond. Communal facilities are located to the front of the development so they can be easily used by the local community.
