Development Overview

The Sixth Form College is a specialist college offering courses and qualifications for 16 to 19 year olds on the Wirral. This scheme is the sixth project undertaken by Ainsley Gommon for the college, building on the excellent working relationships established through our previous projects.

Rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, the college receives large numbers of applications each year and does not have the capacity for the amount of applicants. To facilitate more students, the college is keen to extend its number of classrooms.

The location of this development is in one of the most prominent locations on site; the corner of Shrewsbury Road and Upton Road. The new block frames this junction to create a stronger focal point within the streetscape of Claughton Village.

The modern design compliments our other completed phases projects within the college site, providing a homogenous design approach, helping to connect together the mix of existing buildings.

The new block provides 9 new classrooms as well as some staff facilities. It is linked to the main college building internally as well as externally connecting to the current stand alone block. Some minor works allow the existing building tie in with the new design layout. The extension incorporates a new lift and is fully wheelchair accessible throughout.

The location of the new block creates a courtyard area within the college grounds which is hard landscaped to provide a functional and attractive outdoor amenity space for the students.
