Development Overview

Following the completion of 56 new dwellings on the site of the former Perserverance Mill for Calico, Ainsley Gommon has completed the conversion and refurbishment of the former office building to create new apartments. The development also included the refurbishment of an existing terraced house.

The site accommodated the former office and a laboratory building used by Perserverance Mill, previously known as Albion Mill. The mill buildings adjoined existing occupied terraced housing, which date from around the turn of the 1900’s, but the office building remained empty since 2005 when the mill closed.

The design retained the existing street elevation as part of the proposed conversion. Part of the former building was demolished to provide amenity space, including car parking and soft landscaping.

The surrounding houses have a strong local character and the retention of the office building elevation helps to retain the use of materials and design features predominant within the area. The conversion has created spacious apartments with open plan living spaces, with the large size flat also containing an additional study space.

The site is partially within an area potentially at risk of flooding from the nearby brook. Part of this area now accommodates the car park for the new dwellings. The proposed level of the finished ground floor has been designed to avoid the potential flood levels if they occur.

The scheme complements our completed development of new houses on the adjacent site.
