Development Overview

This project involved the restoration of the Grade II listed 509-515 Lord Street located within the Lord Street Conservation Area, Southport.

The project was funded through the Southport Townscape Heritage Project – a regeneration project intended to help improve historic buildings in Southport’s town centre conservation areas that are in need of investment. The THI offered generous grants towards the restoration of historic details on the façade of the bullions.

The project involved restoring the existing shop front to its former 1905 appearance and also converting the upper floors to 9no. modern apartments.

We were brought on to the project as a Conservation registered practice to process the valuations and to provide conservation expertise and guidance, working alongside the project architects ‘Architecture JD’ from Liverpool.

The site is constrained and therefore there is no onsite parking, however, the location is very well connected with public transport. Mixed use buildings create a vibrant townscape and help address the housing shortage through the provision of a range of new homes.

The restoration has brought this vacant building back into use and has future proofed it for years to come. Historic assets and details of the building have been retained where possible and the finish and quality of the workmanship is exceptional.

The building can now be used as a catalyst in the area for bringing a run down building back to it’s former glory through the Townscape Heritage Project.
